Gouri Shankar Mukherjee has spent years at the cutting-edge of commercial art, having worked over many years for top advertising agencies in India such as JWT, O&M, and Clarion McCann, where he creatively contributed towards the development of products and brands such as ITDC, Dabur, Escorts, Nestle, DCM Toyota, Ind-Suzuki, Ford, Pepsi, Lifebuoy, Lexus Home Appliances, Usha fans, British Airways, and Pall Mall, to name a few. He was also associated with public service campaigns created for UNICEF, Sanjivini, Pulse Polio, Iodine Deficiency Disorder, Mera Bharat Mahan, Pollution Control of India, and the Ganga Cleanup Project, amongst many others, in addition to contributing art-direction along the way for magazines including, Soma, Destination India, Diplomatic Core, and Surya. He even designed a philatelic stamp for the Indian Postal Service, on The First War of Indian Independence.
**About the original charcoal-drawing he created specifically for the flexhibition in Guwahati, Mukherjee says, "Meditation came to me as I took on my journey into this Flexhibition. 'Anando' is not just a visual interpretation of equines, but a work of stillness toward a will to form. It is an internal journey towards outward expression of the nature of love; free of restraint, full of freedom, aligned with the power of the universe."
Having now seen two lovely daughters into independent adulthood, Mukherjee presently utilizes his time drawing nature from life and his environment, primarily with charcoal, pen & ink, or crayons. He is also well known, and much sought after, for lending time to mentoring children interested in arts practices.

**Shankar assembled his 108 images of Ganesa for this flexhibition at The RIA, partly so as to explore how many images could in fact be deployed in the given circumstance. For the record, 108 was excessive.
