CeC is an extraordinary annual public incident that is all about Presentations, Performances, Exhibits and Screenings, involving direct and indirect participation of Experimental Creative Practitioners of all description from around India and the world, spread over 3 days of intense creative interaction,.. with each and every Primary-Participant expected to experimentally bring something creatively *new* to the table.

Ameet Singh
Ameet Singh Ameet Singh creates site specific installations which explore the act of listening and the listening plane though visual experience and aural experience. The installations are created using an 'ambient' methodology which works with nuances of the architectural space with visuals developed specifically for the space, surface or volume. For example visuals developed using the light patterns that the sun creates in a space or working with corners, intersections of surfaces in a volume, or architectural finishes, detail present. These visuals are mapped onto space using multiple video projectors. The soundscape consists of recorded sounds from within the space, existing white noise with an overlay of a specifically composed ambient music track.
These installations are not designed to have a narrative nature and are meant to enhance space subtly without being overtly obtrusive or cinematic. An attempt is made to induce a state of slowing down our sense of time and perception, allowing the viewer to drift. All of these works have been so far collaborative in nature, using either prerecorded music or worked with amateur musicians for the music overlay tracks.
Aparna Panshikar
Aparna Panshikar was born into a family deeply involved with the performing arts, and had an early introduction to Indian Classical music from her mother, Meera Panshikar, a disciple of Padmavibhushan Kishori Amonkar and Pandit Bhaskarbua Joshi. Her own individual singing style has been well received, and often awarded, by audiences as well as connoisseurs in innumerable concerts around India and several other countries, with a repertoire ranged from pure-classical to semi-classical forms and also experimentation in combining North and South Indian Classical music, as well as several collaborations with international electroacousticians, most notable including Lawrence Casserly, with whom she has performed in several countries since 2006.
Album releases so far include: HMV – 3 titles released as 'HMV presents A Voice for the New Millennium', 2000; Inreco Records released a ‘jugalbandi' (fusion) with Aparna singing the Indian Classical style and Sudha Raghunathan singing the Carnatic Classical style of music, under the title 'UNITY' in 2000; Mook Sound, South Korea published a fusion between Indian music composed and sung by her, and Korean music played by leading exponents from that country, under the title 'Winds from Ayuta', in 2002. This won the 'Critics Best New Release Award' in South Korea for 2002; Mook Sound went on to release another title 'Diamond Sutra' and 'Punyapur ki Sarita' in 2003; Deep Emotions (Silk Road Communications ) released 'Shivoham' – a collection of verses by Adi Shankaracharya sung by Aparna, accompanied with sarod and keyboard, 2004.
In addition to her albums and her work with Lawrence Casserley, she has also successfully worked with Greg Turner – an American musician based in South Korea playing Indonesian gamelan, with whom she first exchanged ideas, followed up with basic music pieces and finally created a song, without ever meeting each other. She has also worked virtually with Kai Turnbull, of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, but Kai eventually came down to India and recorded classical pieces directly from her, modified to suit western rhythm patterns as used in pop music. When she travelled to France for a promotional tour of her album 'Shivoham', she worked with the composer and singer Rudolfe Burger to create an experiment that resulted in a small concert for music lovers and connoisseurs. She has participated in and led various seminars and discourses in recent years and is presently taken up with establishing her dream 'Bandish ~ The School of Music', as an umbrella institution for supporting learning, research and propagation of Indian music all over the world, and also as a convergence point for musicians of all description.
Arun Mehta
Arun Mehta is President of the Bidirectional Access Promotion Society where he provides training in software development for the cloud to computer students, with whose help he developed Skid (skid.org.in) a free platform on which one can customize solutions to learning problems of children with cognitive disabilities. With Aparna Panshikar, he has also recently started training in classical singing for non-verbal persons with autism. And, together with Anmol Anand, he co-developed PocketSMS, the first in Bapsi's Vibration series of communication solutions for persons who are both deaf and blind.
Ashhar Farooqui
Ashhar Farooqui is a sonic junkie interested in new discoveries in the realm of music, experimental sound and graphics. He is one half of Teddy Boy Kill, a premiere EDM band from delhi, and also releases music under the alias of Toymob. IN 2012 he co founded Sin;drome with Vinny bhagat. The group pioneered distributed performances with "online concert series", a showcase of spontaneous collaborations with artist of varying disciplines from around the world. Apart from this for the last 4yrs he has been documenting folk music and related culture around the country with a special focus on the northeast. This year he will perform with Sin;drome and also give a presentation of their work together.
Bir Ram
Bir Ram belongs to village Dheli near Almora in Kumaon. He left his home very early to seek a better livelihood in tourist ridden Nainital but kept his folk music roots intact.
He is known to perform over 200 types of Jagar with his son Bhuwan, and earns a reasonable livelihood performing in villages around Nainital, besides his collaborations with the Song and Drama Division and Yug Manch at Nainital.
Bhuwan Ram
A student at a local intermediate school in Nainital, Bhuwan Ram has been handed down his knowledge of the various types of Jagar by his father. Bhuwan can play almost all local folk instruments, but is adept at the Thali (a brass plate played with wooden sticks) and accompanies his father in performing invocations.
Chandan Singh Bora
Chandan Singh Bora inherited his knowledge of Kumaoni folk music from his late father Mohan 'Rithagari', who was a a prominent performer and composer of almost all genres of Kumaoni folk. His repertoire includes the epic love stories Rajula Malusahi, Haruhit, Sidwa Bidwa, Ramola, among many others.
Chandan's job at the Song and Drama Division in Nainital has given him the oppurtunity to perform all over the country including the Indian Folk Research Festival at Delhi University in 2004. He was invited to a discussion on Kumaoni folk music organised by the Azim Premji Institute at Udhamsingh nagar in 2012.
Besides his work at the Song and Drama division, Chandan Singh Bora is also a regular performer in the Ramlila at his village, and plays almost all Kumaoni traditional musical instruments.
Darcy McMurray
Darcy McMurray lives in Vancouver, BC. She has been dancing since the age of 4. Darcy trained to become a Pilates Instructor in 2000, and now is an Instructor Trainer and owns her own studio, Full Circle Pilates and Health. Darcy has worked with Robert Derosiers, Judith Marcuse, Karen Jamieson and most recently with Gail Lotenberg and LINK Dance in the creation and development of Experiments.
Diya Sarker
Diya Sarker is an artist practicing illustrations, painting, photo-imagery and video (candid / experimental). She lives in Mumbai with her two cats, who usually become the subjects of her creative expression.
Freeman Murray
Together with his girlfriend, Ria Rajan, internet futurist Freeman Murray runs StartupSchool.in a program which teaches yoga, sustainability and internet studies. His goal is to help provide people with the tools they need to live healthy, fun, economically viable and ecologically sustainable lives. Wielded masterfully he believes the Internet can bring diverse global culture, educational and business opportunities anywhere enabling the creation of vital intentional communities outside polluted metros. Previously he set up Jaaga.in a large technology and art space in Bangalore, and ran the iAccelerator.org program at IIM Ahmedabad which helped young people start technology companies.
Friedrich Glorian
Friedrich Glorian, Germany, has been involved in music since 1965. Originally performing with local rock bands, he started off a serious musical career some years later as lead guitar player with the 70s German progressive rock band Prof. Wolfff, one of the first prog rock bands in Germany to use German lyrics.
Studies at the Jazz School Munich, training in North Indian vocal music (dhrupad style, with members of the Dagar and Mallick gharanas) and pakhavaj (under the tuition of Raja Chhatrapati Singh and Ramji Upadhyaya), provided a solid base for creative experiences in rock, fusion, world, experimental and electronic music, and for successful collaborations with dance and theater projects.
At present Friedrich Glorian composes music for and performs with contemporary and multimedia music/dance projects and art installations. He performs his own music live (post world improvised music / live looping) on electric guzheng and percussion. He also facilitates circledrumevents (community drumming) at festivals and for music therapy training.
Gene Kogan
Gene Kogan is an artist and programmer who creates audiovisual performance instruments. He works at the intersection of art and computation, with an interest in the use of machine learning software to efficiently negotiate large parameter spaces and create adaptive interfaces for real-time artistic expression.
Gilles Aubry
Born 1973, Gilles Aubry is a Swiss sound artist living in Berlin since 2002. Trained initially as a sax player and composer, he graduated in 2010 as a Master student in Sound Studies at the University of the Arts (UDK) in Berlin.
Gilles' artistic practice is based on an auditory approach of the real informed by researches on cultural and historical aspects of sound production and reception. Combining ethnography, critical discourse and formal experiments, Aubry's work somehow fits in a Western tradition of art documentary. His sonic images (phonographies) of more or less identified situations stand as an attempt to challenge problematic aspects of visual representations.
From 2010 to 2012, Aubry has been a guest artist of the Global Prayers project for which he has been researching on the use of audio-amplification technolgy and the emergence of new urban religious identities in neo-pentecostal communities in Kinshasa, DRC.
Past exhibits and performances include Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, Berlin (Cairoscape, 2008), Les Complices* Gallery, Zürich (2009), Bat Yam Museum, Tel-Aviv (Laptopia, 2009), Issue Project Room, NYC (2010), Diapason Gallery, NYC (2010), Swiss Art Awards, Basel (2010), Macba, Barcelona (2010), NGBK Berlin (The culture of Global Prayers, 2011), Musée Réattu, Arles (2011), Camera Austria, Graz (2012), HKW, Berlin (2012) and Kunsthaus Langenthal (2012).
Hemant Sreekumar
Hemant Sreekumar has been dreaming since three decades and got involved with noise since 1986 when he started self-hypnosis using televison + radio static. He has no useful music skills and finds joy in embroidering coded computational processes to create sonic situations. His compositions deal with notions of measurement, digital decay, data sonification and stochastic emergence.
Jayen Varma
Jayen Varma is an Indian electric bass player. He is known for developing tabla and mridangam style finger technique on bass guitar to play slap bass. The style developed by him is widely known as Indian slap bass, which won him fans around the globe and accolades from some of the great names in bass guitar like Jeff Berlin, Bootsy Collins, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten etc. He belongs to the State of Kerala in India. As per the validation in 2008 by The Registry of Official World Records (Record Holders Republic) US&UK, he is the fastest in percussive bass playing. He performs with the band Khayal Groove led by Indian classical vocalist Aparna Panshiklar.
Jennifer Mascall
Jennifer Mascall is a choreographer and the artistic director of MascallDance, a Vancouver dance enterprise that researches and experiments with performance and perceptions of dance.
John Macfarlane
John Macfarlane is a lighting designer, technical director, and inventor, from Canada.
Kenneth Newby
Kenneth Newby is a media artist-scholar, composer-performer, educator, interaction designer, and audio producer whose creative practice explores the use of technology to enable media performances and installations that are rich in aural, visual and cultural nuances. These works include compositions of media performance, electro-acoustic and acoustic music; interactive computer systems for live performance and installation; software tools for composition of music and animation, new composition for Javanese and Balinese gamelan ensembles; interdisciplinary and intercultural collaborations with composers and artists in various disciplines (film, video, dance, theatre, poetry, shadow play) and participation in improvisational ensembles.
His research in Computational Poetics, supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, in collaboration with Martin Gotfrit and Aleksandra Dulic, resulted in the development of sophisticated media diffusion techniques that enable the creation of singular audiovisual installation works that explore the expressive potential of sculptural forms of multi-channel audio and visual images.
Kenneth's current art research involves interdisciplinary collaborations with international artists and researchers in the creation of computationally based audiovisual installation and media performance works that represent complex images of multi-cultural identity. These works feature situated and culturally sensitive interfaces that link traditional embodied art forms with new media performance technologies to support the communication of cultural identity and memory.
In CeC 2013, Kenneth will present current research including the Flicker Generative Orchestra as well as the Visual Raga project a collaboration with Aparna Panshikar and Aleksandra Dulic (Center for Culture and Technology, University of British Columbia Okanagan).
Lionel Dentan (Da Saz)
Da-Saz has produced a wide variety of productions over the last few years and their music compositions and sounds are always shifting. Filled with surprises and always out of the ordinary their sound is always fresh and spans the whole spectrum from acoustic to electronic music. The nouveau project is about experimental electronic music composed and performed with analog Synths. The live performance is often accompanied with visuals and performance by the Indian classical Dancer Namrata Pamnani. Da-saz has traveled a long way to find it's present destination its. There is a big difference in influences sounds and composition from their debut album 'Jet Lag' released by Phat Phish Records to the new album ‘Sulphabric' released in 2012. As Lionel Dentan puts it "I believe in experimentation, trying new ideas… it (the live set) is now formless, shapeless,including just sounds and Ambient tones, floating around, like abstract art… you can decide what you hear or sonically imagine".
Marta Moreno Munoz
Marta Moreno Muñoz (b.1978, Spain) is a performance and video artist with a background in experimental theatre and other time-based arts. Her work has focused predominantly on "feminine" subjectivity, dissolution of the ego and the notion of pre-oedipal nostalgia in response to a patriarchal and undesirable reality. She is at present in a transitional stage, shifting towards the conceptualization of larger-scale projects exploring the complex interchange between performance art and cinematic language.
Currently nomadic, working on personal artistic projects, researching for her PhD Thesis "Art as an Experience of Dissolution of the Self" and co-directing The Unifiedfield with Marc Chia , Marta Moreno has lived, produced and engaged in artistic works in Spain, UK, Turkey, India, The Netherlands, Indonesia and exhibited worldwide.
Martin Gotfrit
Martin Gotfrit is a professor in music and film at the School for the Contemporary Arts, Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, BC, Canada. An electroacoustic composer, sound designer and improviser, Martin has been attending CeC whenever he can since 2005.
Namrata Pamnani
Namrata inculcated the tradional value of Kathak since the age of 9, with this unique & sensitive approach to depict the rich Indian cultural heritage. Her 14 years of devotion, exploring nuances of Kathak, has earned her recognition through National Scholarship from the Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Perfection in movements, excellent command over Laya & clarity in expression has won her many accolades and today she is known for her amazing stage presences & interaction with the audience. Her performance creates an effect of visual continuity on stage.
She got her formal training under Smt. Bharati Gupta & Pt. Jai Krishan Maharaj (Elder son of Pt. Birju Maharaj) from the Lucknow Gharana.
Pankaj Bhakuni
A freelance video editor & cameraperson by profession Pankaj is a farmer & poet at heart. After living for more than a decade in Delhi, Pankaj moved back to his native village Basauli , Uttranchal to pursue ethno botany. Deeply connected to the Uttranchal hills, he has always been expressing himself in poetry reflecting the Kumaoni cultural, traditional and social life. Currently he is working on a Kumaoni music album as a songwriter & vocalist, besides setting up an ethno botanical garden. He is also conducting computer education classes and organizing media workshops in his village.
Paul Schneiter
Trained as a sound engineer and as a drummer, Paul has been touring and recording in India for the past four years. A drummer with some of top end indian rock bands, Tritha Electric, Menwhopause, SPACE and Mindflew, Paul is also running Katharas recording studio in New Delhi.
Petra Rehwald
The eighties are characterized by numerous performances in the alternative scene in Germany (peace-, anti-nuclear - and ecological movement ...). With the street musicians of Cologne and Braunschweig like Klaus der Geiger, Bijan Mahdjub, Helmut Lindner and many more, Petra's been playing at demonstrations like in Gorleben against the nuclear recycling plant or in Frankfurt against the runway west (they were built anyway...), also in various cultural centres like the UFA- factory in Berlin.
In the eighties and nineties, Petra's performed throughout Europe with various musicians and ensembles from all over the world. Since the nineties she has been on numerous musical journeys to India, working and performing with musicians like Ali Abbas Khan and Nathu Lal Solanki.
In between, Petra has been teaching music to children groups in her home. There is a lot of experimentation, sound-research and improvisation. The children are building sound objects and new instruments in this work. Complete pieces of music as well as musical plays are developed, composed and performed.
End of the nineties she starts working with different percussionists, mainly with own compositions and the unique sound of her Hackbrett (hammered dulcimer), that´s inspired by Petra´s frequent travels to foreign cultures. In around 2000 she set out to work with the composer and sound-artist Werner Gruber at major performances with experimental music.
At present, she's assisting the sound–artist Werner Gruber at the conceptual design of a sound-art exhibition that will be set up in 2013. Petra is also working regularly with international musicians on different musical projects and recordings in Germany, India and Spain.
Puneet Bhatt
First experienced consummate music magic playing guitar in a blues-rock band in Baroda called 'neela masala'.
Being a veritable mountain romantic, one had to return to Uttarakhand to try and earn a living in the adventure tourism sector. Worked in a trekking agency, helped set up a rafting unit for a state govt. tourism agency, laid claim to a couple of 'first descents' in rafting, trekked to unvisited himalayan mountains, tried one's hand at the resort business in the Corbett Park vicinity before finally deciding to pursue music - full time.
Presently working on a Kumaoni folk-rock album to launch a record company for promoting local folk musicians. This label, coupled with a small scale, music-centric adventure company, could be intrumental in uplifting the socio-economic status of some Kumaoni folk musicians and artisans, who are mostly from the backward classes, and invariably impoverished.
Rakesh MPS
Rakesh started his career as a bollywood dancer. Since 2003, he has been doing contemporary dance.He has been associated with Attakkalari centre for Movement Arts, a contemporary dance company in Bangalore, India for 5 years between 2004 and 2009. As a part of the company, Rakesh has performed at various international festivals like Biennale Bonn 2006, Venice Biennale 2006, Frankfurt book fair 2006, Bologna festival of contemporary dance 2006, Munich festival of dance 2006, Poland contemporary dance festival 2006, Düsseldorf international dance festival (Tanzhaus) 2006, Monaco dance forum 2006, Julidans festival Amsterdam 2007 and Yokohama Japan 2007. He has also performed at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi in 2008 for the presidents of India, South Africa and Brazil. With the company, he has also been part of 3 major productions: Transavatar, Purushartha and Chronotopia under the direction of Jayachandran Palazy (Artistic Director and Choreographer at Attakkalari).
Ritika Singh
A multi-faceted individual, Ritika Singh, does vocals and plays guitar for the women-centric band SPACE. She along with her friend Tritha Sinha, started the band in Kolkata 4 years ago and has been performing in venues around New Delhi and various music and art festivals festivals all over in India . The songs are based on humanity and have a lot to do with the issues concerning women in our society today. Ritika has also been actively involved with theatre and has been part of a number of productions staged in Kolkata. She has been responsible for conducting theatrical workshops and was part of the faculty of the Birla group, teaching school children 'theatre in education' as a subject. She made her debut in cinema as a supporting actor for Quashiq Mukherjee (a.k.a Q of 'Gandu' & 'Love in India' fame) in his film called Bish. The live act of SPACE blends theatre and music, giving an audience a truly unique experience of a strong social message delivered with dramatic twists and turns.
Shankar Barua
Shankar Barua has been many things in life before coming around to his present preoccupations as Managing Trustee of The AeA, in which role he is also Curator of CeC 2013. These include adventure-travel writer & photographer, asst. editor and designer of magazines, illustrator, publisher, pack-shot photographer, well-digger & drought-relief worker, book-author, columnist, artist, musician, tea-taster, corporate consultant, advertising copywriter, public speaker, photography workshop leader, public relations professional, TV anchorperson, product prototyper, film-maker, and so on, and on.
Whereas he continues to be some of these things still, his primary goals presently have to do with promoting and empowering creative experimentation & innovation in countries such as India, on the back of the burgeoning evolution and spread of technology.
Sharath Chandra Ram
Sharath Chandra Ram has research and pedagogical interests in citizen science, multimodal interaction, accessibility and digital humanities. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh specializing in Artificial Intelligence and interactive virtual environments and is Faculty at Srishti School of Art Design & Technology. As a researcher at the Centre for Internet & Society, he coordinates activities of the Metaculture Media Lab , an open citizen lab.
Shazeb Shaikh
Shazeb Arif S. (b.1983, Mumbai) is a multidisciplinary artist, curator and entrepreneur. With a background in digital advertising with Grey Worldwide and Ogilvy, Shazeb went on to partner global and national creative initiatives and entities. He is a Trustee with the Academy of Electronic Arts (New Delhi) that promotes creative experimentation and innovation across practices via various platforms:
º The Carnival of eCreativity (CeC), an annual incident (since 2006) brings together global artists, scientists, and thinkers across experimental practices. Currently the CeC network is 2500+ strong.
º Research and Innovation Ashram (RIA), currently being established as a first model in Sattal, Uttarakhand to foster research and provide a space for creative experimentation and collaborations
Shazeb is also a core member of The Wall Project (India), an initiative that has brought a positive impact across the country with permissible paintings in public spaces.
Shazeb is also a Founder of Conjure Arts and Media, a Mumbai-New York nexus that is exploring the mediums of films, first generation innovations, hybrid art products and space design. Conjure's films have already been selected at prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Raindance, Dubai and Chicago besides winning major awards in Shanghai, Stuttgart, New York and Los Angeles.
As a live performer, Shazeb manipulates his visual works with real-time processing + story telling. He also writes structured prose and poetry.
Sheela Raj
Coming full circle.. I grew up in Delhi many moons ago and left as a teenager to pursue a dream, of modern dance. London/New York/Paris: "been there done that". dancing with London Contemporary Dance Theater, Twyla Tharp and Dancers, Merce Cunningham, my own company "Le Cercle", based in Paris, then solo work and much research.. Theater with Peter Brook, Bob Wilson. East West center "Chakra", in the South of France: Return to roots, Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra: Pandit Durga Lal, Pandit Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya, Fahimuddin Dagar: multiple blessings, and then Yoga, the "glue" binding all together.
She says, "CeC in 2011 was a unique playground for us all, and so I wing my way back with a smile in my heArt and the virtual presence of the other members of "the heArtLight Collective", Friedrich, Olive, Shilpika and Suchet, knowing that there will be more magic to share in the Sattal soulscape. Stine Gro
Stine Gro is born in Copenhagen, Denmark, and is now based in Berlin, Germany and at the Funen Art Academy in Odense, Denmark.
Sound and Video are the main medias in her practice, but a mix between medias, such as video-sculptures is also a turning point in her work.
Stine Gro's general approach is generated from an idea about humans as alienated, awkward subjects, who seem not to succeed in interacting with each other.
That creates an inevitable solo space, where we can restitute from the work of constructing an identity from pieces of memory, and from what we borrow from our surroundings. This generates her work with the private, spiritual space, the need to create a "room" of ones own. This leads to her interest in making work that creates a feeling of a spiritual presence , that can almost create a feeling of trance while looking at it for a longer period of time.
This interest has it's starting point in spiritualism as a construction, just as going into a trance can be generated from a set of physical components, such as rhythm as visual fixation.
Tritha Sinha

A musician : Born in Kolkata, Tritha started training in North Indian classical music at the age of five, and never stopped. She is currently a student of Santanu Bandyopadhyay from the Bishnupur gharana.
Equally at home with Indian Classical music as with Bjork and Janis Joplin, Abida Parveen or Aretha Franklin, Tritha has forged her own unique, inclusive sound and has already gained critical and popular acclaim for her songs, several of which were used by the Magnum Agency, France, for their movies on "Women changing India" last year.
A woman : Tritha is an ardent supporter of women's rights and includes her ideas in her songs with "Lyrics that deal with women's liberation, social oppression and sexual exploitation" (Hindustan Times).
In June 2012, she was featured on a full page in Marie Claire India as one amongst the ten most interesting young Indian women, and also that same month, in Tehelka Magazine.
Tritha's picture has been traveling all over the world in 2011 and 2012 with the exhibition Women Changing India, organized by the Magnum Photo Agency and BNP Paribas.
A citizen of the world : Tritha has widely traveled and recently returned to India from a 3-month tour in Europe, during which she also recorded her third album with French record label Notreespace.
Vicki McConville
Vicki McConville's work investigates the trading and transformation of cultural iconographies. She works with print media, shadows, mirrored installations, film, sound and performance.
McConville has exhibited in Australia, U.K, Europe, India and the U.S.A. Her work is held in significant public and private collections throughout Australia, the U.K and Europe.
She has been an Artist in Resident and Artistic Director on large-scale projects in Australia, collaborated and presented at conferences internationally and worked as a visual art lecturer.
As an advocate for visual artists, she has been an Artist Board member of the Print Council of Australia (PCA), the International Digital Art Award (IDAA) and the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA), the peak organisation representing Australian visual artists.
Vicki McConville is currently a PhD candidate at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Her PhD studio based research project, The Essence of Containment, involves creative production at Artist in Residencies at the Studio Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, the Sanskriti Foundation in Delhi, the Halka Art Project in Istanbul and at Red Gate Residencies, Beijing.
Vicki has recently been the recipient of a prestigious award to support her PhD visual research in India as well as a grant from the Australia India Council to assist her development of collaborations between creative producers in Australia and India.
Vickram Crishna
I have been a musician since my schooldays, and helped organise music events in my colleges, through my undergraduate (Arun Mehta and I are classmates, aside from enjoying a long vocational collaboration) and graduate studies. While I have not made music a vocation/career, I continue my interest, and in 2003, in the course of executing an electronic communications project with Arun in Hyderabad, we developed the concept of distributed sound.
This is a technique to deliver electronically amplified sound to a 'sculpted' listening area, allowing for a variety of fascinating sound art applications. Among these are locationally adjacent but distinct sound spaces, mobile sound spaces, and open air sound delivery that delivers high quality sound to a designated audience while enabling relative silence for anyone else. All of these sound space creations deliver sound to groups of people, not just individuals, although sound delivery to individuals is also interesting, in its own way. I personally believe it detracts from the group experience, though, if the purpose is to listen/dance to music together. Mobile audience spaces use wireless transmission, while static spaces can be created with traditional wired amplification systems. The techniques are therefore technology agnostic.
The most major public art event using this technique was the Banganga Music Festival held at a temple complex in Mumbai for three years in succession, for an audience size of around 4,000 people (for major artists such as Pt. Shivkumar Sharma) each time. A very different application was the opening event of the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria, which used a moving audience space for a music performance of Kabir's dohas, by students and staff of the Srishti School of Design, Bengaluru.
Vinny Bhagat
Vinny Bhagat aka Shivnakaun is a sound-artist and musician researching in the field of computational electro acoustic music and audio-visual art and technology. His work explores digital sound generative and synthesis methods, physical interaction and models for performance and composition. He is deeply interested in spontaneous art / music performances, distributed online performances and the connection between sound and moving image in a live performance context.
Born in New Delhi – India , Vinny studied Music Technology and Electronic Music at The Elder Conservatorium Of Music.

Ameet Singh Ameet Singh creates site specific installations which explore the act of listening and the listening plane though visual experience and aural experience. The installations are created using an 'ambient' methodology which works with nuances of the architectural space with visuals developed specifically for the space, surface or volume. For example visuals developed using the light patterns that the sun creates in a space or working with corners, intersections of surfaces in a volume, or architectural finishes, detail present. These visuals are mapped onto space using multiple video projectors. The soundscape consists of recorded sounds from within the space, existing white noise with an overlay of a specifically composed ambient music track.
These installations are not designed to have a narrative nature and are meant to enhance space subtly without being overtly obtrusive or cinematic. An attempt is made to induce a state of slowing down our sense of time and perception, allowing the viewer to drift. All of these works have been so far collaborative in nature, using either prerecorded music or worked with amateur musicians for the music overlay tracks.
Aparna Panshikar
Aparna Panshikar was born into a family deeply involved with the performing arts, and had an early introduction to Indian Classical music from her mother, Meera Panshikar, a disciple of Padmavibhushan Kishori Amonkar and Pandit Bhaskarbua Joshi. Her own individual singing style has been well received, and often awarded, by audiences as well as connoisseurs in innumerable concerts around India and several other countries, with a repertoire ranged from pure-classical to semi-classical forms and also experimentation in combining North and South Indian Classical music, as well as several collaborations with international electroacousticians, most notable including Lawrence Casserly, with whom she has performed in several countries since 2006.
Album releases so far include: HMV – 3 titles released as 'HMV presents A Voice for the New Millennium', 2000; Inreco Records released a ‘jugalbandi' (fusion) with Aparna singing the Indian Classical style and Sudha Raghunathan singing the Carnatic Classical style of music, under the title 'UNITY' in 2000; Mook Sound, South Korea published a fusion between Indian music composed and sung by her, and Korean music played by leading exponents from that country, under the title 'Winds from Ayuta', in 2002. This won the 'Critics Best New Release Award' in South Korea for 2002; Mook Sound went on to release another title 'Diamond Sutra' and 'Punyapur ki Sarita' in 2003; Deep Emotions (Silk Road Communications ) released 'Shivoham' – a collection of verses by Adi Shankaracharya sung by Aparna, accompanied with sarod and keyboard, 2004.
In addition to her albums and her work with Lawrence Casserley, she has also successfully worked with Greg Turner – an American musician based in South Korea playing Indonesian gamelan, with whom she first exchanged ideas, followed up with basic music pieces and finally created a song, without ever meeting each other. She has also worked virtually with Kai Turnbull, of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, but Kai eventually came down to India and recorded classical pieces directly from her, modified to suit western rhythm patterns as used in pop music. When she travelled to France for a promotional tour of her album 'Shivoham', she worked with the composer and singer Rudolfe Burger to create an experiment that resulted in a small concert for music lovers and connoisseurs. She has participated in and led various seminars and discourses in recent years and is presently taken up with establishing her dream 'Bandish ~ The School of Music', as an umbrella institution for supporting learning, research and propagation of Indian music all over the world, and also as a convergence point for musicians of all description.
Arun Mehta
Arun Mehta is President of the Bidirectional Access Promotion Society where he provides training in software development for the cloud to computer students, with whose help he developed Skid (skid.org.in) a free platform on which one can customize solutions to learning problems of children with cognitive disabilities. With Aparna Panshikar, he has also recently started training in classical singing for non-verbal persons with autism. And, together with Anmol Anand, he co-developed PocketSMS, the first in Bapsi's Vibration series of communication solutions for persons who are both deaf and blind.
Ashhar Farooqui
Ashhar Farooqui is a sonic junkie interested in new discoveries in the realm of music, experimental sound and graphics. He is one half of Teddy Boy Kill, a premiere EDM band from delhi, and also releases music under the alias of Toymob. IN 2012 he co founded Sin;drome with Vinny bhagat. The group pioneered distributed performances with "online concert series", a showcase of spontaneous collaborations with artist of varying disciplines from around the world. Apart from this for the last 4yrs he has been documenting folk music and related culture around the country with a special focus on the northeast. This year he will perform with Sin;drome and also give a presentation of their work together.
Bir Ram
Bir Ram belongs to village Dheli near Almora in Kumaon. He left his home very early to seek a better livelihood in tourist ridden Nainital but kept his folk music roots intact.
He is known to perform over 200 types of Jagar with his son Bhuwan, and earns a reasonable livelihood performing in villages around Nainital, besides his collaborations with the Song and Drama Division and Yug Manch at Nainital.
Bhuwan Ram
A student at a local intermediate school in Nainital, Bhuwan Ram has been handed down his knowledge of the various types of Jagar by his father. Bhuwan can play almost all local folk instruments, but is adept at the Thali (a brass plate played with wooden sticks) and accompanies his father in performing invocations.
Chandan Singh Bora
Chandan Singh Bora inherited his knowledge of Kumaoni folk music from his late father Mohan 'Rithagari', who was a a prominent performer and composer of almost all genres of Kumaoni folk. His repertoire includes the epic love stories Rajula Malusahi, Haruhit, Sidwa Bidwa, Ramola, among many others.
Chandan's job at the Song and Drama Division in Nainital has given him the oppurtunity to perform all over the country including the Indian Folk Research Festival at Delhi University in 2004. He was invited to a discussion on Kumaoni folk music organised by the Azim Premji Institute at Udhamsingh nagar in 2012.
Besides his work at the Song and Drama division, Chandan Singh Bora is also a regular performer in the Ramlila at his village, and plays almost all Kumaoni traditional musical instruments.
Darcy McMurray
Darcy McMurray lives in Vancouver, BC. She has been dancing since the age of 4. Darcy trained to become a Pilates Instructor in 2000, and now is an Instructor Trainer and owns her own studio, Full Circle Pilates and Health. Darcy has worked with Robert Derosiers, Judith Marcuse, Karen Jamieson and most recently with Gail Lotenberg and LINK Dance in the creation and development of Experiments.
Diya Sarker
Diya Sarker is an artist practicing illustrations, painting, photo-imagery and video (candid / experimental). She lives in Mumbai with her two cats, who usually become the subjects of her creative expression.
Freeman Murray
Together with his girlfriend, Ria Rajan, internet futurist Freeman Murray runs StartupSchool.in a program which teaches yoga, sustainability and internet studies. His goal is to help provide people with the tools they need to live healthy, fun, economically viable and ecologically sustainable lives. Wielded masterfully he believes the Internet can bring diverse global culture, educational and business opportunities anywhere enabling the creation of vital intentional communities outside polluted metros. Previously he set up Jaaga.in a large technology and art space in Bangalore, and ran the iAccelerator.org program at IIM Ahmedabad which helped young people start technology companies.
Friedrich Glorian
Friedrich Glorian, Germany, has been involved in music since 1965. Originally performing with local rock bands, he started off a serious musical career some years later as lead guitar player with the 70s German progressive rock band Prof. Wolfff, one of the first prog rock bands in Germany to use German lyrics.
Studies at the Jazz School Munich, training in North Indian vocal music (dhrupad style, with members of the Dagar and Mallick gharanas) and pakhavaj (under the tuition of Raja Chhatrapati Singh and Ramji Upadhyaya), provided a solid base for creative experiences in rock, fusion, world, experimental and electronic music, and for successful collaborations with dance and theater projects.
At present Friedrich Glorian composes music for and performs with contemporary and multimedia music/dance projects and art installations. He performs his own music live (post world improvised music / live looping) on electric guzheng and percussion. He also facilitates circledrumevents (community drumming) at festivals and for music therapy training.
Gene Kogan
Gene Kogan is an artist and programmer who creates audiovisual performance instruments. He works at the intersection of art and computation, with an interest in the use of machine learning software to efficiently negotiate large parameter spaces and create adaptive interfaces for real-time artistic expression.
Gilles Aubry
Born 1973, Gilles Aubry is a Swiss sound artist living in Berlin since 2002. Trained initially as a sax player and composer, he graduated in 2010 as a Master student in Sound Studies at the University of the Arts (UDK) in Berlin.
Gilles' artistic practice is based on an auditory approach of the real informed by researches on cultural and historical aspects of sound production and reception. Combining ethnography, critical discourse and formal experiments, Aubry's work somehow fits in a Western tradition of art documentary. His sonic images (phonographies) of more or less identified situations stand as an attempt to challenge problematic aspects of visual representations.
From 2010 to 2012, Aubry has been a guest artist of the Global Prayers project for which he has been researching on the use of audio-amplification technolgy and the emergence of new urban religious identities in neo-pentecostal communities in Kinshasa, DRC.

Hemant Sreekumar
Hemant Sreekumar has been dreaming since three decades and got involved with noise since 1986 when he started self-hypnosis using televison + radio static. He has no useful music skills and finds joy in embroidering coded computational processes to create sonic situations. His compositions deal with notions of measurement, digital decay, data sonification and stochastic emergence.
Jayen Varma
Jayen Varma is an Indian electric bass player. He is known for developing tabla and mridangam style finger technique on bass guitar to play slap bass. The style developed by him is widely known as Indian slap bass, which won him fans around the globe and accolades from some of the great names in bass guitar like Jeff Berlin, Bootsy Collins, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten etc. He belongs to the State of Kerala in India. As per the validation in 2008 by The Registry of Official World Records (Record Holders Republic) US&UK, he is the fastest in percussive bass playing. He performs with the band Khayal Groove led by Indian classical vocalist Aparna Panshiklar.

Kenneth Newby
Kenneth Newby is a media artist-scholar, composer-performer, educator, interaction designer, and audio producer whose creative practice explores the use of technology to enable media performances and installations that are rich in aural, visual and cultural nuances. These works include compositions of media performance, electro-acoustic and acoustic music; interactive computer systems for live performance and installation; software tools for composition of music and animation, new composition for Javanese and Balinese gamelan ensembles; interdisciplinary and intercultural collaborations with composers and artists in various disciplines (film, video, dance, theatre, poetry, shadow play) and participation in improvisational ensembles.
His research in Computational Poetics, supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, in collaboration with Martin Gotfrit and Aleksandra Dulic, resulted in the development of sophisticated media diffusion techniques that enable the creation of singular audiovisual installation works that explore the expressive potential of sculptural forms of multi-channel audio and visual images.
Kenneth's current art research involves interdisciplinary collaborations with international artists and researchers in the creation of computationally based audiovisual installation and media performance works that represent complex images of multi-cultural identity. These works feature situated and culturally sensitive interfaces that link traditional embodied art forms with new media performance technologies to support the communication of cultural identity and memory.
In CeC 2013, Kenneth will present current research including the Flicker Generative Orchestra as well as the Visual Raga project a collaboration with Aparna Panshikar and Aleksandra Dulic (Center for Culture and Technology, University of British Columbia Okanagan).
Lionel Dentan (Da Saz)
Da-Saz has produced a wide variety of productions over the last few years and their music compositions and sounds are always shifting. Filled with surprises and always out of the ordinary their sound is always fresh and spans the whole spectrum from acoustic to electronic music. The nouveau project is about experimental electronic music composed and performed with analog Synths. The live performance is often accompanied with visuals and performance by the Indian classical Dancer Namrata Pamnani. Da-saz has traveled a long way to find it's present destination its. There is a big difference in influences sounds and composition from their debut album 'Jet Lag' released by Phat Phish Records to the new album ‘Sulphabric' released in 2012. As Lionel Dentan puts it "I believe in experimentation, trying new ideas… it (the live set) is now formless, shapeless,including just sounds and Ambient tones, floating around, like abstract art… you can decide what you hear or sonically imagine".
Marta Moreno Munoz
Marta Moreno Muñoz (b.1978, Spain) is a performance and video artist with a background in experimental theatre and other time-based arts. Her work has focused predominantly on "feminine" subjectivity, dissolution of the ego and the notion of pre-oedipal nostalgia in response to a patriarchal and undesirable reality. She is at present in a transitional stage, shifting towards the conceptualization of larger-scale projects exploring the complex interchange between performance art and cinematic language.
Currently nomadic, working on personal artistic projects, researching for her PhD Thesis "Art as an Experience of Dissolution of the Self" and co-directing The Unifiedfield with Marc Chia , Marta Moreno has lived, produced and engaged in artistic works in Spain, UK, Turkey, India, The Netherlands, Indonesia and exhibited worldwide.
Martin Gotfrit
Martin Gotfrit is a professor in music and film at the School for the Contemporary Arts, Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, BC, Canada. An electroacoustic composer, sound designer and improviser, Martin has been attending CeC whenever he can since 2005.
Namrata Pamnani
Namrata inculcated the tradional value of Kathak since the age of 9, with this unique & sensitive approach to depict the rich Indian cultural heritage. Her 14 years of devotion, exploring nuances of Kathak, has earned her recognition through National Scholarship from the Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Perfection in movements, excellent command over Laya & clarity in expression has won her many accolades and today she is known for her amazing stage presences & interaction with the audience. Her performance creates an effect of visual continuity on stage.
She got her formal training under Smt. Bharati Gupta & Pt. Jai Krishan Maharaj (Elder son of Pt. Birju Maharaj) from the Lucknow Gharana.
Pankaj Bhakuni
A freelance video editor & cameraperson by profession Pankaj is a farmer & poet at heart. After living for more than a decade in Delhi, Pankaj moved back to his native village Basauli , Uttranchal to pursue ethno botany. Deeply connected to the Uttranchal hills, he has always been expressing himself in poetry reflecting the Kumaoni cultural, traditional and social life. Currently he is working on a Kumaoni music album as a songwriter & vocalist, besides setting up an ethno botanical garden. He is also conducting computer education classes and organizing media workshops in his village.
Paul Schneiter
Trained as a sound engineer and as a drummer, Paul has been touring and recording in India for the past four years. A drummer with some of top end indian rock bands, Tritha Electric, Menwhopause, SPACE and Mindflew, Paul is also running Katharas recording studio in New Delhi.
Petra Rehwald
The eighties are characterized by numerous performances in the alternative scene in Germany (peace-, anti-nuclear - and ecological movement ...). With the street musicians of Cologne and Braunschweig like Klaus der Geiger, Bijan Mahdjub, Helmut Lindner and many more, Petra's been playing at demonstrations like in Gorleben against the nuclear recycling plant or in Frankfurt against the runway west (they were built anyway...), also in various cultural centres like the UFA- factory in Berlin.
In the eighties and nineties, Petra's performed throughout Europe with various musicians and ensembles from all over the world. Since the nineties she has been on numerous musical journeys to India, working and performing with musicians like Ali Abbas Khan and Nathu Lal Solanki.
In between, Petra has been teaching music to children groups in her home. There is a lot of experimentation, sound-research and improvisation. The children are building sound objects and new instruments in this work. Complete pieces of music as well as musical plays are developed, composed and performed.
End of the nineties she starts working with different percussionists, mainly with own compositions and the unique sound of her Hackbrett (hammered dulcimer), that´s inspired by Petra´s frequent travels to foreign cultures. In around 2000 she set out to work with the composer and sound-artist Werner Gruber at major performances with experimental music.
At present, she's assisting the sound–artist Werner Gruber at the conceptual design of a sound-art exhibition that will be set up in 2013. Petra is also working regularly with international musicians on different musical projects and recordings in Germany, India and Spain.
Puneet Bhatt
First experienced consummate music magic playing guitar in a blues-rock band in Baroda called 'neela masala'.
Being a veritable mountain romantic, one had to return to Uttarakhand to try and earn a living in the adventure tourism sector. Worked in a trekking agency, helped set up a rafting unit for a state govt. tourism agency, laid claim to a couple of 'first descents' in rafting, trekked to unvisited himalayan mountains, tried one's hand at the resort business in the Corbett Park vicinity before finally deciding to pursue music - full time.
Presently working on a Kumaoni folk-rock album to launch a record company for promoting local folk musicians. This label, coupled with a small scale, music-centric adventure company, could be intrumental in uplifting the socio-economic status of some Kumaoni folk musicians and artisans, who are mostly from the backward classes, and invariably impoverished.
Rakesh MPS
Rakesh started his career as a bollywood dancer. Since 2003, he has been doing contemporary dance.He has been associated with Attakkalari centre for Movement Arts, a contemporary dance company in Bangalore, India for 5 years between 2004 and 2009. As a part of the company, Rakesh has performed at various international festivals like Biennale Bonn 2006, Venice Biennale 2006, Frankfurt book fair 2006, Bologna festival of contemporary dance 2006, Munich festival of dance 2006, Poland contemporary dance festival 2006, Düsseldorf international dance festival (Tanzhaus) 2006, Monaco dance forum 2006, Julidans festival Amsterdam 2007 and Yokohama Japan 2007. He has also performed at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi in 2008 for the presidents of India, South Africa and Brazil. With the company, he has also been part of 3 major productions: Transavatar, Purushartha and Chronotopia under the direction of Jayachandran Palazy (Artistic Director and Choreographer at Attakkalari).
Ritika Singh
A multi-faceted individual, Ritika Singh, does vocals and plays guitar for the women-centric band SPACE. She along with her friend Tritha Sinha, started the band in Kolkata 4 years ago and has been performing in venues around New Delhi and various music and art festivals festivals all over in India . The songs are based on humanity and have a lot to do with the issues concerning women in our society today. Ritika has also been actively involved with theatre and has been part of a number of productions staged in Kolkata. She has been responsible for conducting theatrical workshops and was part of the faculty of the Birla group, teaching school children 'theatre in education' as a subject. She made her debut in cinema as a supporting actor for Quashiq Mukherjee (a.k.a Q of 'Gandu' & 'Love in India' fame) in his film called Bish. The live act of SPACE blends theatre and music, giving an audience a truly unique experience of a strong social message delivered with dramatic twists and turns.
Shankar Barua
Shankar Barua has been many things in life before coming around to his present preoccupations as Managing Trustee of The AeA, in which role he is also Curator of CeC 2013. These include adventure-travel writer & photographer, asst. editor and designer of magazines, illustrator, publisher, pack-shot photographer, well-digger & drought-relief worker, book-author, columnist, artist, musician, tea-taster, corporate consultant, advertising copywriter, public speaker, photography workshop leader, public relations professional, TV anchorperson, product prototyper, film-maker, and so on, and on.
Whereas he continues to be some of these things still, his primary goals presently have to do with promoting and empowering creative experimentation & innovation in countries such as India, on the back of the burgeoning evolution and spread of technology.
Sharath Chandra Ram
Sharath Chandra Ram has research and pedagogical interests in citizen science, multimodal interaction, accessibility and digital humanities. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh specializing in Artificial Intelligence and interactive virtual environments and is Faculty at Srishti School of Art Design & Technology. As a researcher at the Centre for Internet & Society, he coordinates activities of the Metaculture Media Lab , an open citizen lab.
Shazeb Shaikh
Shazeb Arif S. (b.1983, Mumbai) is a multidisciplinary artist, curator and entrepreneur. With a background in digital advertising with Grey Worldwide and Ogilvy, Shazeb went on to partner global and national creative initiatives and entities. He is a Trustee with the Academy of Electronic Arts (New Delhi) that promotes creative experimentation and innovation across practices via various platforms:
º The Carnival of eCreativity (CeC), an annual incident (since 2006) brings together global artists, scientists, and thinkers across experimental practices. Currently the CeC network is 2500+ strong.
º Research and Innovation Ashram (RIA), currently being established as a first model in Sattal, Uttarakhand to foster research and provide a space for creative experimentation and collaborations
Shazeb is also a core member of The Wall Project (India), an initiative that has brought a positive impact across the country with permissible paintings in public spaces.
Shazeb is also a Founder of Conjure Arts and Media, a Mumbai-New York nexus that is exploring the mediums of films, first generation innovations, hybrid art products and space design. Conjure's films have already been selected at prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Raindance, Dubai and Chicago besides winning major awards in Shanghai, Stuttgart, New York and Los Angeles.
As a live performer, Shazeb manipulates his visual works with real-time processing + story telling. He also writes structured prose and poetry.
Sheela Raj
Coming full circle.. I grew up in Delhi many moons ago and left as a teenager to pursue a dream, of modern dance. London/New York/Paris: "been there done that". dancing with London Contemporary Dance Theater, Twyla Tharp and Dancers, Merce Cunningham, my own company "Le Cercle", based in Paris, then solo work and much research.. Stine Gro
Stine Gro is born in Copenhagen, Denmark, and is now based in Berlin, Germany and at the Funen Art Academy in Odense, Denmark.
Sound and Video are the main medias in her practice, but a mix between medias, such as video-sculptures is also a turning point in her work.
Stine Gro's general approach is generated from an idea about humans as alienated, awkward subjects, who seem not to succeed in interacting with each other.
That creates an inevitable solo space, where we can restitute from the work of constructing an identity from pieces of memory, and from what we borrow from our surroundings. This generates her work with the private, spiritual space, the need to create a "room" of ones own. This leads to her interest in making work that creates a feeling of a spiritual presence , that can almost create a feeling of trance while looking at it for a longer period of time.
This interest has it's starting point in spiritualism as a construction, just as going into a trance can be generated from a set of physical components, such as rhythm as visual fixation.
Tritha Sinha

A musician : Born in Kolkata, Tritha started training in North Indian classical music at the age of five, and never stopped. She is currently a student of Santanu Bandyopadhyay from the Bishnupur gharana.
Equally at home with Indian Classical music as with Bjork and Janis Joplin, Abida Parveen or Aretha Franklin, Tritha has forged her own unique, inclusive sound and has already gained critical and popular acclaim for her songs, several of which were used by the Magnum Agency, France, for their movies on "Women changing India" last year.
A woman : Tritha is an ardent supporter of women's rights and includes her ideas in her songs with "Lyrics that deal with women's liberation, social oppression and sexual exploitation" (Hindustan Times).
In June 2012, she was featured on a full page in Marie Claire India as one amongst the ten most interesting young Indian women, and also that same month, in Tehelka Magazine.
Tritha's picture has been traveling all over the world in 2011 and 2012 with the exhibition Women Changing India, organized by the Magnum Photo Agency and BNP Paribas.
A citizen of the world : Tritha has widely traveled and recently returned to India from a 3-month tour in Europe, during which she also recorded her third album with French record label Notreespace.
Vicki McConville
Vicki McConville's work investigates the trading and transformation of cultural iconographies. She works with print media, shadows, mirrored installations, film, sound and performance.
McConville has exhibited in Australia, U.K, Europe, India and the U.S.A. Her work is held in significant public and private collections throughout Australia, the U.K and Europe.
She has been an Artist in Resident and Artistic Director on large-scale projects in Australia, collaborated and presented at conferences internationally and worked as a visual art lecturer.
As an advocate for visual artists, she has been an Artist Board member of the Print Council of Australia (PCA), the International Digital Art Award (IDAA) and the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA), the peak organisation representing Australian visual artists.
Vicki McConville is currently a PhD candidate at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Her PhD studio based research project, The Essence of Containment, involves creative production at Artist in Residencies at the Studio Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, the Sanskriti Foundation in Delhi, the Halka Art Project in Istanbul and at Red Gate Residencies, Beijing.
Vicki has recently been the recipient of a prestigious award to support her PhD visual research in India as well as a grant from the Australia India Council to assist her development of collaborations between creative producers in Australia and India.
Vickram Crishna
I have been a musician since my schooldays, and helped organise music events in my colleges, through my undergraduate (Arun Mehta and I are classmates, aside from enjoying a long vocational collaboration) and graduate studies. While I have not made music a vocation/career, I continue my interest, and in 2003, in the course of executing an electronic communications project with Arun in Hyderabad, we developed the concept of distributed sound.
This is a technique to deliver electronically amplified sound to a 'sculpted' listening area, allowing for a variety of fascinating sound art applications. Among these are locationally adjacent but distinct sound spaces, mobile sound spaces, and open air sound delivery that delivers high quality sound to a designated audience while enabling relative silence for anyone else. All of these sound space creations deliver sound to groups of people, not just individuals, although sound delivery to individuals is also interesting, in its own way. I personally believe it detracts from the group experience, though, if the purpose is to listen/dance to music together. Mobile audience spaces use wireless transmission, while static spaces can be created with traditional wired amplification systems. The techniques are therefore technology agnostic.
The most major public art event using this technique was the Banganga Music Festival held at a temple complex in Mumbai for three years in succession, for an audience size of around 4,000 people (for major artists such as Pt. Shivkumar Sharma) each time. A very different application was the opening event of the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria, which used a moving audience space for a music performance of Kabir's dohas, by students and staff of the Srishti School of Design, Bengaluru.
Vinny Bhagat
Vinny Bhagat aka Shivnakaun is a sound-artist and musician researching in the field of computational electro acoustic music and audio-visual art and technology. His work explores digital sound generative and synthesis methods, physical interaction and models for performance and composition. He is deeply interested in spontaneous art / music performances, distributed online performances and the connection between sound and moving image in a live performance context.
Born in New Delhi – India , Vinny studied Music Technology and Electronic Music at The Elder Conservatorium Of Music.

Samvaad screening aims to bring video works from young emerging artists from different parts of the world working in UK.
I felt there was a need to share more & more international video art. So Samvaad is an endeavor to explore, investigate, create and find links and start a SAMVAAD –a dialogue with diverse practices & sensibilities of diaspora artists living in the state of flux in different parts of the world.

1. The nature of GIMP ~ Middle school students at Raul Yzaguirre School For Success [RYSS], Houston, Texas, U.S.A., participated in a classroom assignment, under Tom Chambers.
In this, the seventh grade classes used GIMP (graphic arts software - Photoshop equivalent) to make Digital Art for the Tejano Center for Community Concerns -Raul Yzaguirre School for Success Gala (October 19, 2012), utilizing existing photographs made by RYSS students on various field trips with the Houston Audubon Society.
